FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does low vision therapy help me?

"The doctor told me there is nothing else they can do for me so how can low vision therapy help me?"

Optometrists and ophthalmologists focus on how your eyes function, not on how YOU function in your environment. They evaluate or refract your eyes and your vision under the best possible conditions, low lighting, no glare, perfect 100% contrast, and block lettering. But lets face it, you don't live in your doctor's office. At home and in the community, lighting isn't perfect, glare comes from different light sources, lettering and signs are often selected for style, not visibility.

Low vision therapy looks at your remaining vision, the activities you want to perform, and the environmental conditions where you perform these tasks. We come up with strategies to maximize your vision. These strategies include modifying the environment, modifying your visual target, or using adaptive vision devices so you can do what you want to do.
